Lactoferrin
What is Lactoferrin?
Lactoferrin is an important protein found in breast milk that helps support digestive health. In fact, high levels of Lactoferrin are found in colostrum, the very early breast milk that provides important immune support for newborns during the first weeks of life. It is also found in mature breast milk.
What does Lactoferrin do?
While dietary lactoferrin is digested and available to act throughout the body, some dietary lactoferrin can act in the gut to help reduce the incidence of bacterial infection, possibly by stopping the growth of bacteria by depriving them of iron which is an essential nutrient for their growth. Clinical studies have shown this protein's ability to support immune health for infants and toddlers.
MFGM
What is MFGM?
MFGM (Milk Fat Globule Membrane) is found in every drop of breast milk and helps support your baby’s cognitive development. Specifically, MFGM is a naturally occurring membrane that surrounds the fat droplets in breast milk. Research has shown that MFGM plays an important role in brain structure and function.
What does MFGM do?
Emerging evidence from a recent clinical study showed MFGM in formula supports cognitive development similar to breast milk.* In fact, infants who were fed a formula that had MFGM from 2 months of age until 6 months showed improvements in a measure of cognitive development when they were tested at 12 months, compared to babies who were fed a formula without MFGM.**
Lactoferrin and MFGM in Enfamil Formulas
Lactoferrin and MFGM have been added as ingredients to Enfamil® Enspire™ in amounts that are within the range found in mature breast milk. The combination of lactoferrin and MFGM has been associated with fewer digestive and respiratory issues.&
Enspire is the only formula brand with both immune-supporting lactoferrin and cognition-supporting MFGM added as ingredients. Enfamil NeuroPro also has MFGM to foster cognitive development.
